Join us to create a simple and painless banking experience for small and medium businesses.
We have a simple, yet ambitious goal: to provide SMBs with the financial products and services they deserve by building a brand-new bank from the ground up.
In order to this, we want to build the best team there is, capable of obtaining our banking license from the European Central Bank. We will design and create a technical infrastructure with top-notch security, develop a wide range of modern banking products and services, and win over the market to the idea of not only a new player in banking, but a new way of banking.
We are a very young company, so you’ll have the chance to join the project from its inception. You’ll work in a company with no technical debt (it does not happen often) or antiquated internal administrative procedures. You’ll have carte blanche to define with us what our future bank will look like.
Our organizational structure is simple and efficient: those who make product decisions are the same ones who build them. We put a strong emphasis on teamwork, but also give our team members clearly defined areas of responsibility in which to act and grow. We explain this in more detail in our Playbook.
Our office is located in the heart of Paris, and believe it or not, not far from the historical headquarters of French traditional banks¹. We are surrounded by all that Paris has to offer: theaters, cinemas, coffee shops, bars and covered passages.
If you live outside the Paris region, we are open to partial remote working for some positions as long as you can be on-site at least 3 days per week, at least at the beginning. We will cover your train tickets.
You are an accountant and proud of it. Undeterred by the stereotypes, you are passionate about accounting issues. You know all the ins and outs of IFRS standards and charts of accounts (ICNE, IFRS 9, Fair Value Hedge). You can craft regulatory statements (SURFI, COREP, FINREP) in your sleep.
At the same time, you are becoming more and more frustrated by the internal accounting system of your bank. The in-house tools you use on a daily basis drive you crazy. You are convinced that most of the work you have to do manually could be automated. Despite the reporting constraints you have to comply with, you endeavor to free up as much time as possible to try to improve things. You are adamant that something better could be built without tremendous effort.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
You will have three main missions:
You have already set up or redesigned a bank accounting system.
Perhaps you haven’t quite guessed the name of the next version of Android, but you definitely seek out anything and everything there is to know about Android and its related subjects.
You’ve already participated in the development of several applications available in the Google Play Store. Big Android projects don’t scare you off. On the contrary, they motivate you. You can handle all aspects of an app, from data persistence to client/server communication, to the user interface. You’re autonomous and creative. You like interfaces that are pixel-aligned, you are obsessed with testing, and you’re uncompromising about the quality of the code.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
As our first Android Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and deploying our app on all Android devices. You will work closely with back-end engineers to get the most out of our internal APIs. You will ensure a high standard of coding, following best practices and continuous integration processes. In your apps, you will keep our core values in mind: usability, security and customer service.
Previous experience in the banking or fintech industry.
You have a passion for back-end development. What you like most is solving complex architectural problems all the way down to the last line of code. You’re motivated by ambitious projects that tackle real needs. You’re reliable, and your tests will prove it every time. You’re autonomous and love teamwork. You value diversity: although you worship your IDE, you understand that other developers might prefer another one.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
We’re putting together our entire technical infrastructure, piece by piece, starting from scratch. By joining the development team, you will contribute to this ambitious project and will face many technical challenges.
You will be in charge of the development of our Core Banking System, the central block of our technical infrastructure, written in Kotlin and Elixir. You will contribute to the foundation of the transactional banking core and APIs for our web and mobile applications and ensure their continual development. You will integrate third party systems and will delineate APIs for our partners. Tests will be an integral part of your work, and you will be responsible for the code your produce. We iterate rapidly and deploy our applications several times per day.
We encourage all developers to write about their work, to share their knowledge and to participate in conferences as a speaker or attendee. (This is considered working time, of course). In addition, we will buy any technical book you may be interested in and add it to our company library. Here are a few conference talks given by some of the back-end engineers you will have the opportunity to work with and some articles they have authored. (If you don’t like to give talks, that’s fine, you won’t have too).
You are a banker and proud of it. Undeterred by the stereotypes, you know you are not just in it for the money. You are passionate about financial challenges, and you take a distinct pleasure in providing valuable support to companies. You know the ins and outs of every banking product: checking accounts, payment methods, cash flow management, credit, etc. You build long-term relationships with your customers, can identify their potential and offer assistance when they need it. You have always considered yourself to be a true financial partner and have never sold your clients a product they didn’t need.
On top of that, you are becoming more and more frustrated by the internal protocols you have to follow. You hate asking your clients to fill out yet another new lengthy form sent by your legal department. Despite the unavoidable administrative tasks, you always try to free up as much time as possible to focus on what really matters: your customers and their needs. The in-house tools you use drive you crazy, and you know it is entirely possible to do things much better.
By joining Margo Bank, you are giving yourself the chance to be the banker you’ve always wanted to be.
Your main focus will be your initial client portfolio, from acquisition to management and retention. As part of the sales team, you will contribute to the evolution of the bank’s Net Banking Income (NBI) while expertly addressing your clients’ needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
No matter what half of your colleagues may think, you do not see banking compliance as a burden. On the contrary, you are adamant that compliance is critial to better protecting customers and their money. You know the Basel III rules by heart and you are not afraid of Mr. McDonough’s ratio. When it comes to applying a new directive, you always try to find common ground with the other teams. You are obsessed with offering the best user experience while respecting regulatory constraints. In short, you know how to combine pleasure and obligation.
You are not afraid of legal issues; in fact, you enjoy resolving them. You know that a knowledge of law is not only mandatory (“Nemo censetur ignorare legem” your uncle Aristotle used to say), it is also a real asset for the company. Instead of relying on lawyers’ advice only, you like to form your own opinion by reading the law yourself.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
As Risk and Compliance Manager, you will be in charge of our banking license application to the ACPR, the French Regulatory Authority. You will work closely with our law firm, our CFO and the rest of our teams to get our banking license as soon as possible. You will define and develop all the compliance procedures to be implemented in our products and company. You will stay up-to-date with the latest regulatory changes and keep the rest of the team informed. This will be a long and difficult project, but you are not afraid because you know the game is worth the candle, as they say.
You take immense pleasure in writing. You love the musicality of a carefully crafted phrase, the power and beauty of diction and syntax when implemented with thought and precision. You have a strong command of and respect for language. You fully understand being overcome with frustration when confronted with pages filled with garbled jargon. Misprints and typos drive you crazy, and your eagle eye never misses them! And, don’t even get you started on grammatical errors.
Every sentence you write is masterfully honed, each word meticulously selected and placed. At the same time, you are neither finicky nor intransient. To this day, you experience an indescribable joy when opening the OED or perusing a particularly good thesaurus. You love making other people’s ideas accessible by putting them into words that speak to the common man. You deftly wield your plume, are inherently creative, and always follow through on your endeavors.
You are not intimidated by working in a rapidly changing environment. You know how to stay calm and focused in order to stick to specs and meet deadlines.
We are looking for someone to join our team who is passionate about writing, banking, and technology. You will be given a blank slate to define the future editorial scope of our brand across all platforms: internet, articles, press releases, newsletters, etc. This cross-cutting role will involve working with people across different teams on a variety of projects.
Your main responsibilities will include:
You like statistical laws and assess your chances of getting a job using a normal distribution. Juggling probabilities of default, calculating provisions, handling RWA: that’s your thing. You know that credit production inherently involves good and bad vintages, and you are here to mitigate this. You are not afraid of regulatory matters, and you might even argue that they have their mertis. You like to make up your own mind on regulations by reading the texts directly. And when the time comes to apply a new directive, you always aim to find common ground with the other stakeholders.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
As a credit risk modeling manager, you will be in charge of building the credit risk scoring and monitoring model. You will propose the most appropriate technical approach and develop a methodology of statistical modeling. You will work closely with the rest of the team to prepare our banking licence application. You will be involved in the definition of credit risk documentation. You will stay up-to-date with the relevant regulations and keep the rest of the team informed.
You are a tried and true banker. With over fifteen years’ experience in the banking sector and counting, you have done your share of leading teams and riding out crises. However, what stands out the most in your mind are the great projects you’ve had a hand in financing, and the deep sense of personal satisfaction that comes from seeing them through. Of course, you have also seen the dirty underside of the profession. On a bad day, you think its negative reputation is deserved. And yet, in your core, you know that when it is done properly, it is one of the best jobs in the world. Accustomed to the process-laden and hierarchical nature of traditional banks, you can’t help but think there is a better way. You dream of unleashing your talents – expertise in risk management and interpersonal skills – in a more unfettered environment (without sacrificing rigour and meticulousness, mind you).
The Chief Risk, Audit & Compliance officer, as Deputy Managing Director, is a key position in the organization and will be responsible for:
You have already managed engineering teams of at least 50 people in environments with strict constraints on data management, security and performance.
You know how to recognize and attract the best talent and help them get even better at what they do. You know how to define an ambitious roadmap and meet your deadlines without compromising the security and quality of what you deliver.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
As CTO, you will take ownership of the technical direction of the company. This will include several different missions:
You have a deep understanding of payment systems or the retail banking industry.
Sometimes referred to as The Sherlock Holmes of Data, you are passionate about solving complex problems and analyzing data. You are not intimidated by the thought of creating a new dataset. Being able to investigate, optimize, and analyze data pushes you to take your research to the next level. You are a self-starter, enjoy working in a team, and are interested in learning more about the banking sector. The opportunity to rebuild, to start afresh with a clean slate, is particularly attractive to you.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
You will be tasked with helping the sales team obtain appropriate performance indicators and relevant business data to make the best possible decisions. We are looking for someone with a pragmatic approach to implementing projects quickly and resolving problems proactively. As we grow, new challenges will surface requiring creativity and a willingness to take on greater responsibility.
Winning an innovation competition run by Bpifrance, the French Public Investment Bank, has allowed us to build a team around an exciting project.
Our goal: to improve risk management with AI algorithms created using a business database populated with data from the banking platform we are developing.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Every day, you discover a new trendy start-up with a completely broken interface. You might have already redesigned it for fun. You know how to design great interfaces that are lovely to look at and easy to use.
You know that doing simple things is the hardest thing in the world and that each problem needs its own solution. You can keep track of hundreds of parameters in your head and address each of them in such a way that the final result seems like a given.
You want to define and champion our brand identity and to continue honing it throughout the years.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
You will design the customer experience on our website, on desktop or mobile. You will sketch wireframes, design interactions, and make them as clear as possible for the product and engineering teams. You will take care of every detail and word. You will paint the back of the fence.
You will also be responsible for defining our brand identity and making sure your guidelines are applied internally and externally.
We want to ship the first version of our product within the next nine months, so the aforementioned will take up most of your time in the beginning. After that, your role will evolve along with the company.
You are a super organized, detail-oriented person with a positive attitude. You like to make life easier for everyone around you. If others were asked to describe you, they would start by saying that you are deeply committed and extremely professional.
You can adapt to different kinds of situations and people. You are very tactful and are not intimidated by titles.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
You will assist the four executives of the company in a large variety of tasks in their professional and personal lives.
You will support them in all manner of administrative tasks including but not limited to managing calendars and emails, prioritizing calls on their time, coordinating meetings and events, scheduling travel arrangements and ensuring all details and logistics are clearly coordinated in advance. These types of tasks will be the basis of your duties; new ones might be added according to the evolution of company, your preferendes and your abilities.
You will think ahead and make sure executives can focus on making the company grow.
You are not only a jurist by training, but also by vocation. You love your field, but you have never quite felt at home as a traditional lawyer or in-house counsel.
You are not only a jurist by training, but also by vocation. You love your field, but you have never quite felt at home as a traditional lawyer or in-house counsel. Being pigeon-holed by specialization or treated like a legal rubber stamp isn’t enough for you. You want your expertise to contribute directly to strategic decisions, and you want to feel invested in the company’s success. You appreciate the value of teamwork in the context of a healthy working environment, and you are convinced that with a bit of curiosity and a lot of common sense, you could take on much wider responsibilities than commonly afforded to jurists.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
You have one or more significant experiences in banking law.
You may not have the lastest AirPods but you’re eagerly awaiting the stability of Swift. You’re talking about your iOS bugs with you therapist, who happens to be Siri. You can’t wait for your bank to be compatible with Apple Pay. You have already built an app from scratch, deployed and distributed several apps through the App Store, and you’re not afraid of large iOS projects. You are able to work on all the components of an iOS app: data persistence, client/server communication, user interface, etc. You are reliable, love to innovate, are fond of pixel-perfect UIs, are obsessed by tests and software quality, and are passionate about everything related to the iOS platform.
If you are that person, we want to hear from you.
As our first iOS Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering our app on all iOS devices, iPhone and iPad included. You will work closely with back-end engineers to get the most out of our internal APIs. You will ensure a high standard of coding, following best practices and continuous integration processes. In your apps, you will keep our core values in mind: usability, security and customer service.
Previous experience in the banking or fintech industry.
You know the ins and outs of market acquisition channels and have a solid web and B2B culture. You systematically measure the impact of your efforts to identify the most effective techniques. You have a penchant for data analysis, and it is your favourite way to start to the day. You are extremely curious and always on the lookout for new ideas and methods.
You are also interested in brand positioning and strategy. You play the long game and enjoy investing time and energy in well-defined, long-term approaches to reaching the target audience and instilling trust. You firmly believe that the power of marketing cannot be disassociated from that which it is promoting. Because of this, you are always interested in the technology behind the products and services that you champion.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
Your main undertaking will be to orchestrate our brand and product launches in France in order to secure our first prospects and clients. You will work closely with our sales team to define the target market. You will increase Margo Bank’s brand recognition and build its reputation among SME business owners.
Your responsibilities will include:
These activities will take up most of your time in the first few months and will continue to require your oversight as the company expands. In this context, and according to your experience and abilities, you may be asked to recruit and lead a marketing team and/or launch our product in other European countries.
Hipster-organic-pixel-UI crafting is not really your thing. What you like to do is handle big data issues and get your hands dirty. You are production-oriented. You are extremely reliable and your tests will prove it every time. You don’t even raise an eyebrow when refactoring legacy code or mocking dusty SOAP services. The latest hacker-news-cool-kid-technology makes you smile because you don’t buy their marketing. You want the source code, you want sustainability, and you want facts.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
We need you to help us connect our Core Banking System (written with Elixir) to the external world. Without you, SEPA wire transfers and credit card payments won’t happen, which is a bit annoying when you want to become a bank. You are not afraid of anitquated banking infrastructure because if other people manage to deal with them, why shouldn’t you? If you’ve ever wanted to send a wire transfer in a few seconds, it’ll soon be possible. Why? Because you’re going to make it happen, and it’s going to be awesome.
You want to be a part of our adventure by building a new bank providing the best banking experience for SMBs in Europe. You are convinced that this goal is not achievable without a strong data strategy. You are able to communicate both the business and technical rationale behind your product decisions. You know the strengths and weaknesses of your product, and you are able to share your ideas efficiently. Your colleagues appreciate your efficient and elegant solutions.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
Within the product team, you will be responsible for the definition and execution of our data roadmap. You will work with a dedicated data engineer team to build our brand new data platform. You will work closely with product managers, developers, bankers, and credit risk managers. With a deep understanding of internal and external stakeholders’ problems and goals, you will own the data roadmap and make sure new features are delivered with maximum quality.
You want to take part in our adventure by building a new bank and the best banking experience for SMBs in Europe. You are able to communicate both the business and technical rationale behind your product decisions. Whether you do it on paper, Keynote or Sketch, you know how to share your ideas efficiently, and your colleagues always love your creative and elegant solutions.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
Working closely with product managers, developers, designers, bankers and credit risk managers, you will lead the product vision and strategy. With a deep understanding of customer problems and goals, you are the customer voice inside the development team. You will define the roadmap along with the executive team, and you will ensure that all the new features are delivered on time and with maximum quality.
Experience with any programming languages.
You’re passionate about integration tools and challenges, tests and production. You love configuring and monitoring servers as much as developing tools and availability or scalability tests. You love making the team’s life easier, improving the quality of delivery, and making it possible to deploy to production several times per day. You believe that any repetitive task should be automated. You’re concerned about security, and you like to educate your colleagues. You’re autonomous and love teamwork. You value diversity: although you’re an advocate for Python, you can understand that other people might prefer Rust.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
We’re putting together our banking infrastructure, piece by piece, starting from scratch. For obvious reasons, uptime and security are paramount. By joining the development team, you will contribute to this ambitious project and will face many technical challenges.
As a member of the development team, your mission will be to design and implement a high-quality infrastructure, deployed on AWS. You will configure or develop tools to allow developers to test and deploy their code in minutes. You will develop availability, scalability, performance and compliance tests with industry highest security standards. You will set up monitoring tools to anticipate and analyse software and security issues. You will industrialise and scale internal tools as the company grows. You will ensure that security is taken into account at every step, and for every internal or external user.
You started out on the front lines as a banker and know the role like the back of your hand. Then, you worked your way up the ranks to management level where you defined and rolled out the commercial strategy, handled recruitment, and developed growing teams of bankers. You are convinced that properly training and equipping bankers, giving them the freedom and responsibility to work autonomously, is the way forward. You are insistent that being a banker is first and foremost about trust, not sales. It is the former that makes the latter possible.
You are, of course, very familiar with the landscape of the French SMB market: credit exposure, 12-month default rates, the complexities of each industry… At the same time, you know that each company is unique, and you remain attuned to the specific journey of each business owner you meet.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
You will have four main areas of responsibility:
With well over fifty successful placements under your belt, you know where the good people are and how to attract them – but that isn’t enough for you. At this point in your career, you are only interested in the crème de la crème, the perfect fit between top-notch candidates and the best companies.
Your depth and breadth of experience have taught you to see beyond a resume and have honed your ability to discern someone’s true personality and motivation from the first phone call. You are aware of your personal biases and work to keep them in check when interacting with potential hires.
You know that there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to recruitment. From tailored communication to customized quantitative analyses, you do what it takes so that all involved are able to make confident hiring decisions. When it comes to attracting the best, you are adamant that every detail counts (website, initial contact, response time, office visit, etc.), not just the official application process.
You genuinely enjoy working in an energetic team united behind an ambitious collective project, so you are fully committed to creating such a team by bringing together the best people from across a variety of backgrounds.
You are a meticulous and organized self-starter capable of expertly managing multiple projects simultaneously.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
Creating a bank requires a high level of collective intelligence from across multiple disciplines: risk, compliance, engineering, product management, design, sales, etc. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is as ambitious as it is exciting. The ambitious part: attract and recruit the best talent in each of these areas of expertise. The exciting part: you will be given the freedom and the resources to go after this challenge.
You will define, drive, and improve every step of our recruitment process: crafting of job postings, scouting promising profiles, selecting candidates, organizing interviews, finalizing offers, etc.
An entrepreneur at heart, you will try out multiple new ideas at once in order to find the best alternatives to classic recruitment methods. You will also develop and enhance our employer brand so that the best talents will be drawn to us.
We plan on doubling the size of our team inside of six months, so the aforementioned will take up most of your time in the beginning. After that, your role will evolve along with the company. Depending on your experience, abilities, and preferences, you could end up recruiting and heading up a hiring team or you might orient yourself more towards other aspects of human resources (team events, training, compensation policy, corporate culture, etc.)
Experience managing a team of recruiters.
You want to take part in our adventure by building a new bank and the best banking experience for SMBs in Europe.
You are able to communicate both the business and technical rationale behind your decisions. You know how to share your ideas efficiently, and your colleagues always love your rational and functional solutions. You can adapt to various types of personality and adapt your communication.
If you feel that you can be the person we are looking for, contact us!
As a Technical Program Manager, your responsibilities will be to keep our engineering team aligned with the big picture and focused on the global company direction. Your goal is to deep-dive into our technical challenges and promote best-in-class processes. Your role is to help the technical team to organize their day-to-day job and allow them to deliver faster.
You will have to:
You’re passionate about front-end development. You’re obsessed with product quality, and nothing pleases you more than crafting a pixel-perfect user interface. You know that when it comes to UI, the devil is in the details.
You love making a complex interaction simple, in your code and for the user. You know Single-Page Applications, their advantages and constraints. You’re autonomous and love teamwork. You value diversity: although you only swear by Atom, you can understand that others might prefer Sublime.
If you are this person, we want to hear from you.
We’re putting together our entire technical infrastructure, piece by piece, starting from scratch. We mainly use React, but also Flow, Styleguidist and Cypress in our development process to design complex interfaces. By joining the development team, you will contribute to this ambitious project and will face many technical and ergonomic challenges.
We encourage all developers to write about their work, to share their knowledge and to participate in conferences as a speaker or attendee. (This is considered working time, of course).
